
Level 3 Teaching Assistant (School)
Overview
The Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship enables learners to develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours required to support pupils effectively in the classroom. Apprentices learn how to help plan, deliver and assess lessons, provide targeted interventions and create a positive, inclusive learning environment.
Role Profile
Teaching Assistants play a vital role in supporting teachers and helping pupils reach their full potential. Working closely with classroom staff, you’ll assist in planning and delivering engaging lessons, while contributing to a positive and inclusive learning environment.
You’ll also:
• Deliver one-to-one and small group interventions, including SEN support and additional learning needs
• Help manage classroom activities and resources to ensure lessons run smoothly
• Support pupils during extracurricular sessions such as breakfast, lunchtime and after-school clubs
• Work alongside a designated skills coach or mentor to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required for the Level 3 Teaching Assistant Standard
• Commit to completing the apprenticeship through the End Point Assessment process
Who Is It For?
This apprenticeship is suitable for individuals in roles such as Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Specialist Support Assistant, or those supporting specialist curriculum areas within schools.
Course Summary
The Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship is equivalent to two A Levels (grades A–C).
The programme typically lasts 12–18 months and is delivered through a blended learning approach, combining remote sessions, workplace training and one-to-one learning support.
Apprentices who do not already hold Level 2 qualifications in English and Maths will be required to achieve these before completing the End Point Assessment.
20% Off-The-Job Training
Apprentices spend 20% of their paid working hours completing off-the-job training. This includes any learning undertaken outside normal day-to-day responsibilities that contributes to achieving the apprenticeship standard. It may involve attending workshops, shadowing, online learning or completing assignments related to the role.
