Our Approach

Our Sporting Excellence Professional Level 3 Apprenticeship is designed to develop talented athletes aiming for professional sporting careers. Apprentices gain Teaching Assistant experience with a specialism in PE and School Sport, ensuring well-rounded professional growth.

Role Profile

Sporting Excellence Professionals are skilled athletes who perform competently in their chosen professional sport, such as cricket, football, rugby league, or rugby union. They play an active role within a professional team environment, supported by a multidisciplinary group that includes coaches, physiotherapists, psychologists, nutritionists, and performance specialists.

Apprentices develop high levels of autonomy and accountability, taking responsibility for their performance on the field and demonstrating resilience under pressure.

Who is it For?

This apprenticeship is ideal for players who are contracted to a professional club or team. It is also suitable for existing athletes within the professional game who have not previously completed a sports apprenticeship.

Progression

Successful completion of the programme can lead to continued contracted work as a professional player or open further opportunities within the sports industry.

Course Summary

The Sporting Excellence Professional Level 3 Apprenticeship is an advanced qualification, equivalent to two A Levels (grades A-C). The programme typically runs for 12-18 months and is delivered through a blended learning model that combines remote sessions with one-to-one training and support. Apprentices who have not yet achieved Level 2 English and Maths will need to complete these before the end-point assessment. The full programme cost is £8,000.

20% Off-The-Job

Off-the-job training refers to learning undertaken outside of day-to-day sporting responsibilities. This structured training contributes directly towards achieving the apprenticeship standard and developing broader professional skills.

Benefits to Employer

This apprenticeship enables employers to develop and retain talented home-grown players, supporting them as they progress into professional contracts and first-team opportunities. By integrating structured training alongside playing commitments, clubs can create more time for athletes to train, play, and receive expert coaching. The programme also helps clubs to demonstrate value for money by strengthening investment in their academy systems and delivering measurable results.
